On the way to camp last night we were driving in the rain and in the dark. No big deal for an Oregonian right? The difference is that there are very little controls on semi-trucks and other types of trucks here so there is always a large amount of oil on the freeway so when it begins to rain it is slicker than snot!! I was driving along very slowly when we entered a construction zone. The road had just been repaved. It was very smooth and without bumps! But it also was without lane lines of any kind. It was very difficult to see where the edge of the road was. In the States you have almost 3 feet on the sides of the road before you are off the pavement and in the grass. In Venezuela you have maybe 2 inches so the margin of error is very slight.
In comparison when we turned off that freeway onto the freeway that runs below the camp it was like driving in the daylight! It has lane lines and reflectors! What a difference. You can actually see a good distance down the road. I doubt I would have noticed the reflectors had I not just driven in the total darkness of the other freeway.
Ok, maybe hanging around with two preachers is starting to rub off…. As I was driving and praising God for road reflectors ;o) I was thinking that Christ is our road reflector! When we have Christ’s light in our lives it shines and reflects a light so we can see where we are going. Have you ever noticed that road reflectors don’t do you any good if your headlights are off? (I was going to try it but I didn’t want to scare my passenger!) So when I live by the light of the Lord I have a clear path! God is good all the time! All the time God is good!

Kim,
I love to read your blog! Thanks for the little message. It helps on the journey. I would love to have a chat with you one day. It is nearly 6 years since the mission trip to Ven. with the snake, rodent and cockroach!Oh the memories! That trip was a pivotal time in my life.
We are glad to have the Bakers back. Haven't spent much time with them, but hope to soon.
Later,
Karen Ouse
